Most popular visas for Indonesia
There are several types of visas you can apply for when traveling to Indonesia.
Below we explain the differences between the three most popular visas.
All visas (except for the visa on arrival) have to be applied before departure.
e-Visa On Arrival (B1)
The electronic Visa On Arrival for Indonesia (short e-VOA Indonesia) can be obtained at Indonesian airports as long as you have a passport that is still valid for 180 days. Many people prefer to apply for the e-VOA in advance to skip the long queues at the airport.
This visa is valid for 30 days after arriving in Indonesia and can be extended for another 30 days if you plan to stay longer. It’s the most common visa, not only for Dutch and Belgian tourists, but in general. This visa is for anyone who wants to enjoy everything Indonesia has to offer, such as visiting Java, Bali, Nusa Penida or the Gili Islands.
- With the e-Visa On Arrival, you can stay in Indonesia for up to 60 days
- Upon arrival, it is valid for 30 days
- It can be extended once for another 30 days
- Apply at least 48 hours before departure (earlier is better)
- It's a single-entry visa, this means if you go on a short trip to Kuala Lumpur for example, it becomes invalid and you need a new visa
Tourist Visa (C1)
If you want to stay longer in Indonesia, the C1 Tourist Visa is for you. This visa is valid for 60 days. After that, it can be extended twice, each time for 60 days. In total, you can stay in Indonesia for 180 days with the C1 visa — about half a year.
This gives you enough time to explore the highlights of the Indonesia, such as the Borobodur temple in Java, The Komodo National Park in Flores or diving in Raja Ampat. This visa is only suitable for tourists: if you want to work in Indonesia remotely, choose a Digital Nomad visa.
- With the Tourist Visa (C1), you may stay in Indonesia up to 180 days
- Upon entry, it is valid for 60 days
- Can be extended twice for 60 days each time (total of 180 days)
- Single-entry: if you cross the border, your visa becomes invalid
Digital Nomad Visa (E33G)
This visa is especially popular for people living in Bali and working remotely. After an hour of outdoor yoga, you settle down in the garden with a cup of tea and open your laptop to work for a few hours. In the afternoon, you go surfing and in the evening, you meet your friends for a drink. Does that sound like a dream? It doesn't have to be! With the Digital Nomad visa, it is possible to live and work in Bali for a longer period of time. You must have an income of at least $60,000 per year and be able to show an employment contract from an overseas company (meaning outside of Indonesia).
- With the Digital Nomad Visa, you can stay in Indonesia for up to 360 days
- It's not extendable, this means after one year you need to get a new visa
- Multiple-entry: you can cross the border and return as often as you like for one year
- Your annual income is at least $60,000 and you have a valid contract
Keep in mind
Once your visa is issued, you have 90 days time to enter Indonesia - otherwise the visa becomes invalid.

Why American travellers prefer visa-indonesia.com
Many foreigners have problems applying for their Indonesia visa on the official immigration website (evisa.imigrasi.go.id). Every day, we receive emails from people who struggle with creating an account, making the payment, or uploading their documents.
Even if they manage to complete all steps, their visa application can still remain “waiting verification” for several weeks. See for yourself how easy it is to apply with us compared to doing it on your own:

We guarantee that your visa will be approved — otherwise, you’ll receive a full refund. If you apply for the visa yourself through evisa.imigrasi.go.id, please note that there is a strict no-refund policy. |

We guarantee your visa will be issued on time — before departure or, for last-minute bookings, before arrival — or you’ll get a full refund. When applying via evisa.imigrasi.go.id, there’s no guarantee on processing time, which can lead to serious issues. For e-VOA, it might mean long airport queues; for other visas, you risk being denied boarding if you’re not eligible for Visa on Arrival — possibly forcing you to rebook your flight. |

You can request a full refund anytime before we submit your documents to immigration. After submission, refunds are no longer possible due to Indonesia’s strict no-refund policy for visas. You’ll also receive a full refund if your visa is not approved or if we miss the promised delivery time before your arrival. |

FAQ
Find some of the most frequently asked questions below. If there is still something unclear, message us.
Do I need a visa for Indonesia?
Yes, everyone visiting Indonesia needs a visa unless you are an Indonesian citizen.
Before 2020, many countries received a free visa on arrival. Nowadays, only the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states can get a visa on arrival for free. These countries are: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, East Timor, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam
Which visa for Indonesia do I need?
For visits of up to 60 days, an e-Visa on Arrival is sufficient. It allows travel for tourism (B1), business trips or meetings (B2), and medical visits (B3). If you plan to stay longer than 60 days, a single-entry tourist visa (C1) is the best option, as it allows stays of up to 180 days.
If you plan to visit Indonesia multiple times within a year, a multiple-entry visa for tourism (D1) or business (D2) may be a better option. These visas are valid for one year and allow stays of up to 180 days per visit.
It’s important to note that none of these visas permit you to work in Indonesia. Recently, the remote work visa (E33G), often referred to as the “digital nomad visa,” has gained popularity. It allows you to live in Indonesia while working remotely for a foreign company.
If you are seeking visa options for extended stays, please don't hesitate to contact us or visit our website at .
How much does an Indonesia visa cost?
The official immigration fee for the visa on arrival is 500,000 Indonesian Rupiah, plus payment processing fees if the visa is ordered online via evisa.imigrasi.go.id. Most travellers prefer the more convenient option and order their e-visa on arrival through .
Most popular visa types:
• e-Visa on Arrival (B1): 54 EUR*
• Single-Entry Tourist Visa (C1): 125 EUR*
• Single-Entry Business Visa (C2): 195 EUR*
• Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa (D1): 297 EUR*
• Multiple-Entry Business Visa (D2): 351 EUR*
•Digital Nomad Visa (E33G): 775 EUR*
*No hidden costs: All payment and immigration fees are included in the price.
How can I apply for an Indonesia visa online?
If you want to apply for your visa for Indonesia online, you have two options:
1. Apply via the official government website
Register an account at evisa.imigrasi.go.id and follow the instructions to apply on your own. Please note that you do so at your own risk, and no support is provided.
2. Apply through

Can I buy a visa for Indonesia at the airport?
Yes, it is possible to obtain a visa on arrival at any airport in Indonesia.
To be eligible, you must hold a regular passport issued by a country approved for a visa-on-arrival in Indonesia. Your passport must be valid for at least 180 days from your date of arrival and contain at least one blank page.
Please note that many international flights arrive at approximately the same time, often resulting in long queues at immigration counters. That’s why we strongly recommend applying for an e-Visa on Arrival (e-VOA) in advance.
With an e-VOA, you can use the auto-gate system—simply scan your passport and walk through, while others wait in line at the manual immigration desks.
If you have a temporary passport, we recommend applying for an e-Visa on Arrival before your departure. Some people reported that their airline wouldn't let them board with a temporary passport. Most likely, the airlines don't want to take any risk because, in the past, Indonesia didn't issue visas on arrival for temporary passport holders.
What travel documents do I need for Indonesia?
1. Passport
• Must be valid for at least 180 days from your arrival date in Indonesia.
• Must have at least one blank page for a visa stamp.
2. Visa
• Citizens of around 100 countries can enter Indonesia with a Visa on Arrival (VoA) or an electronic VoA (e-VoA).
• 10 ASEAN countries receive a free visa for up to 30 days: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, East Timor, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam.
• If you’re staying longer than 60 days or have special travel purposes (like remote work), you have to apply for a visa in advance.
3. Return or onward ticket
• Immigration may ask for proof that you’ll leave Indonesia within the allowed stay period. Airlines can deny boarding, and Indonesian immigration officers can refuse entry if you fail to provide evidence of a valid return or onward ticket.
How long does the Indonesia visa take to get issued?
Indonesian immigration typically issues the e-visa on arrival almost instantly after payment, provided the applicant is eligible and all documents are correctly formatted and uploaded.
However, problems can occur during account creation, document formatting or uploading, or the payment process.
Single-entry visas (such as C1 or C2) are usually approved within 7–10 working days, which can mean up to two weeks. If you apply on your own, it’s not uncommon for applications to get stuck in the system for several weeks without progress or approval.
That’s why we recommend applying through , where experts handle the entire process for you efficiently, correctly, and with full support.
